First Citizen Businessman Greg Aziz
Greg Aziz is a Canadian entrepreneur who is best known as the Chief Executive Officer of Wabtec Corporation. Located in Hamilton, Ontario, Wabtec Corporation is a leader in producing railroad freight cars. The business leader was born on April 30th, 1949, in London, Ontario, Canada.
He attended McMaster University, earning a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in 1974. From 1975 until 1979, he worked at the Royal Bank of Canada in Montreal, serving as the Head of Retail Retailing and following that as a Manager of Retail Distribution. In 1978, Greg Aziz left his job to start his own business.
After seeing no steel car manufacturer in Canada, Greg Aziz started Wabtec Corporation Limited, which would produce rail cars for railways worldwide. The Wabtec Corporation Company Ltd. operated it. It has since developed into one of North America’s largest rolling stock manufacturers, with approximately 10% shares in Canadian National Railway and Canadian Pacific Railway. Greg Aziz has led the firm to achieve huge success and growth.
In 1994, Greg Aziz was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Wabtec Corporation. Shortly after this appointment, the company won contracts to manufacture freight cars for the Canadian Pacific Railway and Ontario Northland Railway (ONR) (LinkedIn).
Greg Aziz has received many awards during his leadership at Wabtec Corporation, including the Award for Leadership for meritorious achievement in Management by “Black Belt Magazine” and “Canadian Business” in 1992. In 1989, he was awarded Canada’s First Citizen Businessman by Canada’s Minister of Industry. In 1997, the railroad industry leader Greg Aziz was inducted into the Canadian Business Hall Of Fame (formerly known as Caesars Club).
