The Chainsmoker’s first hit was in 2014, so it can be hard to believe they haven’t lost any momentum in the last 4 years. In fact, they have continued to pick up speed. According to Forbes, the Chainsmokers brought in $38 million in revenue; they upped it to $45 million in 2018.
The Chainsmokers, which consists of Alex Pall and Drew Taggart, have created such hits as “Closer,” “Something Just Like This,” and “Paris.” Their debut single was “#Selfie.”
The group is at the tail end of a 3 year contract with Wynn Nightlife, a club where they are paid six figure numbers to perform almost nightly. When you consider they perform almost 100 dates per year, it is easy to imagine how they made $45 million in 2018.
The Chainsmokers were also gifted a diamond certified plaque from the RIAA in 2018. The plaque was for the song “Closer,” which sold over 10 million units. Originally released in 2016, “Closer” was a Summer anthem for people all over the world. The song, which features Taggart and Halsey on vocals, tells the story of a young man and woman in love - a subject many can relate to.
In 2017, after their most successful single to date, Memories…Do Not Open, their first full-length album, was released. The album achieved platinum sales and sat upon the billboard charts for an extended period of time.
More About Alex Pall and Drew Taggart.
Alex Pall originally founded The Chainsmokers with a different partner; however, Taggart joined in 2014 when Pall’s prior musical partner left the group. They were introduced to each other through mutual contacts.
The Chainsmokers have been able to remain in the spotlight for such a long time because they are more than willing to change up their style to match current trends. They are able to take what is popular at the moment, add their own spin to it, and release it to critical acclaim. If they continue, it is hard to say when The Chainsmokers will lose steam.
