Electronic musicians Alex Pall and Drew Taggart, more commonly known as the pop duo The Chainsmokers, have been gracing the airwaves and billboard charts for just over 2 years now. EDM crossed with romanticized lyrics is the recipe causing fans globally to swoon. With notable hits such as “Closer” with fellow pop-superstar Halsey and “Don’t Let Me Down” with Daya, the group has kept fans on their feet providing a steady flow of dance hits.
As in any artists careers, The Chainsmokers faced their share of turmoil on the road to success. The lifestyle and demanding schedules associated with the music industry are no secret to the two. 2018 saw a new single release from the guys and it comes with a noticeably darker tone. Taggart explained how the band had evolved, met a lot of people and grown. He also made it clear that they knew what they wanted to discuss and that the group’s music had always been a commentary on the world around them.
” You become this thing that isn’t actually who you are as a person, and it’s hard to get around. It’s hard to explain some of that stuff and you can’t… part of you needs to let it go. We realized we just need to put our reaction to all that kind of stuff, both the crazy and the criticism, into the music.” Taggart said.
The Grammy winners also boast a trophy case full of American Music Awards and iHeart Music Awards. Since their conception, it seems the pair has been destined for greatness. Thanks to an introduction by their manager, Adam Alpert, the group was born. They’ve been a hit maker ever since.
Pall and Taggart, of New York and Maine respectively, have most definitely crafted a genre of their own. With musical influences from deadmau5 to Taylor Swift, their eclectic and ever evolving sound is sure to translate to their fans. And they aren’t showing any signs of slowing down. The group works hard to keep up with a demanding schedule as well as maintaining the frequency at which they are releasing new material. We can be sure that this unstoppable duo will keep creating music that will make the world stop and listen.
