JD launched its “Running Chicken” initiative. The program involves free range chickens. Jingdong bought a chicken farm in order to provide consumers with the freshest products. Chickens that are raised on this farm are totally organic and each one is fitted with a pedometer in order to keep track of each chickens progress. The large field of twenty-seven hectares of land is located in Wuyi County, China. This farm allows the people there to work and earns a living in what is historically one of the poorest counties in China.

JD has helped turn the county around. Over the last few years, the program has become very popular. This is due to the fact that people can make sure that they know where their food is coming from. The company makes sure to keep detailed records of every chicken that is reared on this farm. If people want to know where their chickens are coming from they can easily trace the process with the help of the company. Now that this particular program has been so successful JD has taken two new measures along the same lines. The first program is called Swimming Duck and the second is called Flying Pigeon. Both of these programs have the same principle as the Free Range Chicken program does.
